Barcelona reportedly offer Arsenal Vidal and Rakitic for Guendouzi

Barcelona have reportedly offered Arsenal Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic in exchange for Matteo Guendouzi, according to French media outlet Foot Mercato.

Guendouzi has been training away from the Arsenal first team for the past month and is believed to be for sale. He failed to apologise and take responsibility for his behavior in the closing stages of the North London club’s loss at Brighton last month and other disciplinary issues he has had in the last few months. He has been left out of every Arsenal squad since the Brighton defeat by head coach Mikel Arteta and it now looks like there’s no way back for the Frenchman.

The Blaugrana are keen to offload many members of their squad so that they can focus on their primary targets this summer which include Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez. They have offered the Gunners two potential deals to sign Matteo Guendouzi.

The first one is a player swap that would see both 33 year old Arturo Vidal and 32 year old Ivan Rakitic move to the Emirates in exchange for the former Lorient midfielder. Both players have been deemed surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou. This season, Vidal has scored eight goals and provided three assists in 42 appearances across all competitions while Rakitic has scored one goal and provided four assists in 41 appearances. Arsenal are looking for midfield reinforcements but are not thought to be too inclined to such a deal.

The second offer presented by Barcelona involves Arsenal shelling out £45 million and sending Guendouzi to the Camp Nou in exchange for Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian is another player the Spanish giants are desperate to get off their wage bill but they want to recoup some of the money they spent to bring him to the club. Arsenal are understood to be against parting ways with such a significant amount of money in addition to one of their players for the 28 year old.

Talks between the two clubs are expected to continue as Arsenal seek to find a suitable offer for their French midfielder.
