Dayot Upamecano has reportedly signed a new deal at RB Leipzig
|Dayot Upamecano has reportedly signed a new contract at Red Bull Leipzig, according to German media outlet Sportbuzzer.
Arsenal have a long standing interest in the French defender. It is understood that Leipzig rejected a £55 million bid from the Gunners for the player last summer. Upamecano has one year remaining on his contract and there was a fear he would leave for free next summer. The German club wanted to prevent this from happening and so offered him a new contract. Had he not signed the new deal, he would have been sold this summer.
The 21 year old wants to stay at RB Leipzig as he believes this summer is not the ideal time to move to a new club. A release clause has been included in his new contract and so if a suitable offer arrives for the player next year, he will be allowed to leave. The German club did the same thing for Timo Werner last year and he is headed to Chelsea this summer.
The Frenchman is one of Europe’s most highly rated young centre backs and has attracted interest from a host of top clubs. He will stay with Red Bull Leipzig for the upcoming season but when he does eventually leave, he is intent on choosing a club where he is guaranteed first team football, even if that means rejecting the advances of some of Europe’s best teams.
