Willian close to signing a new contract at Chelsea
Arsenal target Willian is close to agreeing a new deal at Chelsea and could put pen to paper on a new contract by the end of this week, according to Sky Sports.
The Brazilian has been linked with a move to North London in recent months and it is believed the Gunners had made him a lucrative offer prior to the coronavirus. Arsenal have reportedly been working hard to bring Willian to the Emirates on a free transfer this summer. Some members of the club’s hierarchy were optimistic about the possibility of sealing a deal for the Brazilian.
Willian was keen on being offered a three year contract. It is reported that Arsenal were willing to do that but Chelsea were only prepared to give him a two year extension. Chelsea and the player’s representatives have had a breakthrough in negotiations and Frank Lampard’s side are now the favourites to resign the 31 year old.
This season, the Brazilian attacker has scored nine goals and provided eleven assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. He has been instrumental in leading the Blues to Champions League qualification. Frank Lampard will be delighted about the news that Willian is likely to extend his stay in West London.
