Deal for Arsenal to keep Dani Ceballos on loan for another year ‘almost done’

A deal to extend Dani Ceballos’ loan at Arsenal for another year is ‘almost done’ according to Sportwitness via Spanish media outlet AS

Ceballos signed for Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid for the entirety of the 2019/20 season. The Spanish midfielder has scored two goals and provided two assists in 36 appearances across all competitions during his time in England.

He failed to impress for much of his loan spell at Arsenal owing to a lack of form and injuries. The 23 year old won Arteta’s trust with his commitment in training during the winter break and started 11 out of the remaining 13 Premier League games, becoming a key member of the Arsenal first team in the process.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has developed a strong relationship with Ceballos and is very keen to extend his stay in North London. Ceballos and Xhaka have forged a strong partnership in the middle of the park for the Gunners.

The former Betis midfielder had indicated earlier in the season that he planned to head back to Madrid once his loan spell at Arsenal ended. More recently, he indicated that he would be open to stay at the North London club as he had settled in and felt like the club was headed in the right direction with Arteta at the helm.

The 23 year old is unlikely to get regular game time next season were he to return to Real Madrid in the summer. This is because Zinedine Zidane is not his biggest fan. Ceballos is keen to be a part of the Spanish squad for the European Championship next year and so will need to play regularly next season. As things stand, he is a guaranteed starter for Arsenal.

Real Madrid are looking to raise funds this summer and so might expect a loan fee for the player.
