Atletico confident Arsenal will not trigger Partey’s release clause
|Atletico Madrid are confident Arsenal will not trigger Thomas Partey’s £45 million release clause, according to Spanish journalist David Vinuesa Malbac.
The Gunners informed Atletico that they would not trigger the Ghanaian midfielder’s buyout clause and the Rojiblancos believe that the North London side will keep their word as they are an honourable club. They have made it clear that Partey will not leave unless his release clause is triggered. No other clubs have shown an interest in paying £45 million for the player and so the Madrid based club believe the player is more likely to renew his contract with them than leave this summer.
The Spanish giants offered the Ghanaian powerhouse a new deal a few months ago and have no plans to change the terms of this offer. Partey has not signed the contract so far but with the news that Arsenal are unlikely to trigger his buyout clause, the player could change his mind.
Arsenal made a bid of £22.8 million in addition to one of their players for Partey. The Gunners were willing to include one of several players that are currently on their books and this included Matteo Guendouzi. Atletico rejected this offer but the North London club are expected to make a new cash-only bid for the player in the coming days.
Partey’s commitment and professionalism at Atletico has never been in question. Simeone is happy with the player and he is preparing for the resumption of the Spanish club’s European campaign. The Ghana international’s future will have more clarity at the end of the Rojiblancos’ Champions League conquest.
