Real Madrid are very close to approving a year long extension of Dani Ceballos’ loan at Arsenal, according to Spanish journalist David Vinuesa Malbac.
Dani Ceballos signed for Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid last summer. He did not have much of an impact on the club for much of the season and played less than expected due to a lack of form and injuries.
Soon after Mikel Arteta took over as head coach, rumours began to circulate that he wanted to leave North London and head back to Spain because he didn’t have the trust of the new boss. He earned Arteta’s trust during the winter break when the club went to Dubai for a warm weather training camp. He started Arsenal’s first game after the winter break and has gone on to cement his place in the side. He started 11 out of the club’s last 13 Premier League games.
Arsenal are keen on keeping him on loan for another season. Earlier in the season, the player had said that he was keen to go back to Real Madrid once his loan at Arsenal ended and fight for a place in the first team. More recently, he has changed his stance and made it clear that he is comfortable in North London and open to extending his stay at the club.
Zinedine Zidane, the Real Madrid head coach, is not his biggest fan and Ceballos is unlikely to get too much game time were he to go back to the Spanish club. He is keen on being a part of the Spanish national team at next year’s European Championship and knows he must play regularly to be in with a chance of being selected. As things stand, the 23 year old is a guaranteed starter at Arsenal.
It is believed that as long as the player is open to staying with the Gunners and no other club convinces him to join them instead of remaining at Arsenal, Real Madrid will sign off on a year long extension of his loan at Arsenal.
