Arsenal in talks to sign Willian as Brazilian rejects latest Chelsea offer

Arsenal are in talks with Willian’s representatives to sign him on a free transfer after the Brazilian rejected Chelsea’s latest two year contract offer, according to Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sports.

The 31 year old has been linked with the Gunners for the last few months and the North London club reportedly made him an offer prior to the pandemic. He wants a three year contract and Chelsea have so far only been willing to give him a two year deal.

Barcelona are believed to be interested in the player but are yet to make a concrete offer. Kia Joorabchian, the Brazilian’s agent, has close ties with some members of the Arsenal hierarchy including head of football Raul Sanllehi and technical director Edu Gaspar. This is expected to boost Arsenal’s chances of bringing Willian to the Emirates.

David Beckham’s Inter Miami have reportedly offered the 31 year old a lucrative three and a half year contract.

Willian has scored 63 goals and provided 62 assists in 339 appearances for Chelsea. This season, he scored eleven goals and provided nine assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.

The Gunners are keen on getting a majority of their transfer business over the line as early as possible and it looks like Willian could be the first player to arrive at the Emirates this summer.
