Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang close to signing new three-year contract at Arsenal

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is believed to be on the brink of signing a new three-year contract with the north London club.

In an exclusive by Matt Law of The Telegraph, the Gunners believe their proposal should secure the long-term future of the 31-year-old.

In recent weeks, the forward has been linked with a move away from London while the club was preparing a new contract offer for him.

With his current deal set to expire in the next 12 months, it was suggested the club could sell Aubameyang to prevent him leaving for free next summer.

According to a variety of reports, Spanish side Barcelona appeared to be the most likely destination for him if he were to reject the club’s offer.

Instead, Arsenal seems to have won the race to sign the striker.

The Gabonese forward will reportedly put pen-to-paper on a new deal worth approximately £250,000. His new contract will run until 2023, covering his final 12 months while extending his deal by two further years.

Aubameyang has been in exceptional form for the Gunners this season, scoring 29 goals in all competitions. Also he was named the club’s new captain earlier in the season which makes the news all the more sweeter.
