Arsenal have offered Lucas Torreira to AC Milan, according to Marco Ramiccia of Milan News.
The Gunners plan to rebuild their midfield this summer. The club expect to sell Matteo Guendouzi in the upcoming transfer window and it is now looking increasingly likely that they will also sanction the sale of Lucas Torreira.
The former Sampdoria midfielder signed for Arsenal in the summer of 2018. He had an impressive debut season in North London and became a fan favourite. His second season, however, has been hugely disappointing. He was played out of position by former Gunners head coach Unai Emery and was in and out of the team.
The 24 year old featured quite heavily in Mikel Arteta’s first few games as Arsenal boss but after the winter break, he lost his place in the team to Dani Ceballos. Torreira suffered a serious injury during an FA Cup tie against Portsmouth which kept him on the sidelines for a significant period of time. His injury, however, coincided with the suspension of English football due to the coronavirus and he returned to full fitness not too long after the resumption of the Premier League in June.
The Uruguayan failed to win back his place in the starting eleven due to the impressive form of Ceballos. He started just two out of the last six games of the season in the Premier League and did not start the semi final or final of the FA Cup.
Torreira is open to a return to Italy and AC Milan are the frontrunners for his signature, according to Chris Wheatley of Gooner Talk. A loan move for the former Sampdoria midfielder is the most likely option at this point.
AC Milan showed an interest in the player last year but were put off by the £36 million price tag quoted by the Gunners for the 24 year old. The Italian club remain interested in the Uruguay international and will wait to see how much he is available for this summer.
