Willian has undergone his medical at Arsenal

Willian has undergone his medical at Arsenal today, according to Jack Rosser of the Evening Standard.

The Brazilian will sign a three year contract worth £100,000 a week. He received more lucrative offers from Barcelona and Inter Miami but chose to sign for the Gunners as he found their project attractive and is keen to work with Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar.

The 32 year old decided to leave Chelsea because they were only willing to offer him a two year deal. The player has traditionally played on the wing for Chelsea but there is a belief at Arsenal that he can also do a job for the club in the number 10 position. Head coach Mikel Arteta is keen to sign players who are multi functional and can offer solutions in different areas of the pitch.

In the seven years he spent at Chelsea, Willian won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, two League Cups and a Europa League. He scored 63 goals and provided 62 assists in 339 appearances for Chelsea.

This season, he scored eleven goals and provided nine assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. Arsenal believe they are signing a Premier League proven player at an affordable price especially considering they are signing Willian on a free transfer.

The player’s signing is expected to be announced on Wednesday.
