Zech Medley signs for Gillingham on season long loan
|Zech Medley has signed for English third division side Gillingham on loan for the 2020/21 season.
The 20 year old signed for Arsenal from Chelsea as a scholar in 2016. His impressive progress earned him a professional contract in August 2017.
The central defender made his first team debut for the Gunners against Vorksla Poltava in the Europa League in 2018. He came on as a 60th minute substitute for Rob Holding. He followed this up with another appearance for the club against Qarabag in the same competition.
This season, Medley made 15 appearances in the Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy. He has been a regular in the Arsenal Under 23 side in recent years. His impressive form earned him a place in the first team matchday squad for the club’s Europa League tie against Standard Liege.
The tall, commanding centre back is highly rated by Arsenal’s youth coaches and the club are confident he will prove himself in England’s third tier.
The Gunners are looking to strengthen their options in central defence over the summer. They have signed Pablo Mari on a permanent deal and welcomed William Saliba after the Frenchman’s loan at Saint Etienne came to an end. The North London club hope to sign Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille in a deal that could be worth up to £27 million.
Arsenal are looking to offload a few defenders in the coming months. The club will listen to offers for Rob Holding, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi.
