Arsenal and Roma considering a swap deal involving Torriera and Diawara

Arsenal and Roma are considering a swap deal involving Lucas Torreira and Amadou Diawara, according to Italian media outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport via Pagine Romaniste.

Due to the impressive form of Dani Ceballos in the closing stages of the season, Lucas Torreira has lost his place in Arsenal’s starting eleven. The former Sampdoria midfielder is keen on regular game time as he wants to maintain his place in the Uruguayan national team. The 24 year old is open to returning to Italy this summer. Torreira’s situation at the North London club could change if the Gunners fail to extend Ceballos’ loan.

Roma signed Diawara from Napoli last summer for £19 million. The Guinean midfielder has liked his time in Rome so far but has not fully convinced in his first season for the club. The Italian club are looking for somebody to add significant quality to their midfield and have identified Torreira as a potential option.

The Gunners have a long standing interest in Diawara and would be open to exploring the viability of a deal that would see Torreira head to the Stadio Olimpico and the 23 year old Guinea international arrive at the Emirates.

This season, Torreira scored one goal and provided two assists in 39 appearances for the Gunners. His second season for Arsenal was disappointing especially compared to his debut campaign in North London that made him a fan favourite.

He was played out of position by former Gunners boss Unai Emery and although he started a majority of Mikel Arteta’s initial Premier League games as Arsenal head coach, he lost his place in the team to Ceballos after the winter break. Amadou Diawara scored one goal and provided one assist in 31 games for Roma in all competitions.
