Arsenal are interested in Amadou Diawara and see him as an alternative to Thomas Partey, according to Sam Dean of the Telegraph.
Diawara is one of a number of options being considered by the Gunners as they look to bolster their midfield. It is understood that talks regarding a move for the player are at a very early stage. No formal approach has been made yet and Roma are believed to be keen on retaining the 23 year old.
Roma signed Diawara from Napoli last summer for around £19 million. The Italian club is in a strong position with the Guinean midfielder still having four years remaining on his contract. He scored one goal and provided one assist in 31 games across all competitions in his debut season for Roma.
It is understood that the North London club view Diawara as an alternative to their top transfer target Thomas Partey. The Ghana international will only be allowed to leave Atletico this summer if his £45 million release clause is paid in full.
It is being reported in some sections of the Italian media that Lucas Torreira could be involved in a swap deal for Diawara. Torreria has lost his place in Arsenal’s first team this season and is open to returning to Italy this summer. AC Milan and Fiorentina are believed to be interested in signing the player.
There appears to be an element of uncertainty surrounding Arsenal’s midfield options. The Gunners all set to sell Matteo Guendouzi this summer after the Frenchman had a falling out with head coach Mikel Arteta. The club are keen on retaining Dani Ceballos and extending his loan for another year but Real Madrid are rumoured to have rejected Arsenal’s offer for the player and expect him to report for pre-season training.
