Trae Coyle to sign for Gillingham
|Trae Coyle will sign for Gillingham, according to Jeorge Bird. It is currently unclear whether he is signing for the club on loan or permanently but it is assumed to be a loan deal.
The 19 year old is a graduate of the Arsenal academy and has been nominated for this year’s Golden Boy award which is presented to the best young player in the world. Coyle joined Arsenal’s academy as an eight year old in 2009.
He has risen up the ranks and began training with the first team just before the resumption of English football. He made an appearance in a friendly against Brentford right before the Premier League restart but is yet to make his competitive debut for Arsenal’s senior side.
This season he scored two goals and provided three assists in 17 appearances for the Arsenal Under 23 side. He is an attacking midfielder who is capable of playing as a striker.
Arsenal’s academy coaches rate Coyle very highly and big things are expected from the player. He will link up with Zech Medley who recently signed for the third division side on a season long loan. Head coach Mikel Arteta and academy manager Per Mertesacker will keep a close eye on Coyle’s progress at Gillingham in the upcoming season. If he performs well, a chance in the Arsenal first team will be within his grasp.
