Galatasaray join Trabzonspor in race to sign Elneny on loan
|Galatasaray have joined Trabzonspor in the race to sign Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny on loan, according to Turkish media outlet Turkish Football.
Trabzonspor have been in negotiations to sign the Egyptian midfielder on a season long loan but are yet to agree a loan fee with the Gunners. The Turkish club have also not made it clear how much of Elneny’s wages they plan on paying.
Galatasaray have indicated their interest in signing Elneny and are ready to take advantage of Trabzonspor’s indecision to seal a loan deal for the player. They are a high profile club and believe this could work in their favour as they look to bring the Egypt international to the Turk Telekom Stadium.
Mohamed Elneny spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Besiktas. They showed an interest in extending the player’s stay at the club earlier in the season and the Egyptian midfielder was open to that idea. A subsequent wage dispute between Elneny and the Turkish club derailed those plans and the on-loan Arsenal midfielder made the decision to shelve talks with Besiktas until his salary was paid in full.
Interest from Galatasaray will have set off alarm bells among the Trabzonspor hierarchy as they are keen on signing Elneny this summer. The player is well settled in Istanbul and this could cause him to prefer a move to Galatasaray. Elneny has two years remaining on his Arsenal contract.
