Arsenal in talks with Real Madrid to keep Ceballos for another year

Arsenal are in talks with Real Madrid to keep Dani Ceballos on loan for another year, according to Sky Sports.

Dani Ceballos had a largely indifferent first half of the season at Arsenal due to injuries and a lack of form. He got an extended run in the first team after the winter break and put in a string of impressive performances to cement his place in the side. He was one of Arsenal’s standout players in the closing stages of the season and is crucial to Mikel Arteta’s plans at the club.

The Gunners and Arteta in particular are keen on extending the player’s stay in North London. They are unlikely to be able to sign him permanently this summer but remain hopeful of keeping him at the club for another year.

The 24 year old is expected to link up with Real Madrid for pre-season training while negotiations between the two clubs continue. He is believed to be keen on staying at Arsenal. He recently spoke about how settled he felt at the club and how much he was enjoying his football under Mikel Arteta. The former Betis midfielder said he would be open to staying in North London.

He played in every FA Cup game for the Gunners on their way to being crowned champions. Ceballos scored a crucial last minute winner against Sheffield United in the quarter finals of the FA Cup. He and Granit Xhaka have forged an effective partnership in the middle of the park. This season, the Spaniard scored two goals and provided two assists in 37 appearances for the North London club across all competitions.
