French club Stade Rennais are interested in signing David Luiz this summer, according to French journalist Mohamed Toubache Ter.
Mohamed Toubache Ter broke the news that Arsenal had agreed a deal to sign Matteo Guendouzi in the summer of 2018 before anybody else. He first reported interest in Luiz from the French club last week.
David Luiz recently signed a one year extension with the Gunners and is considered an important part of head coach Mikel Arteta’s plans. He is a leader in the Arsenal dressing room and it would come as a shock to everybody if he were to leave this summer.
The Brazilian defender signed a two year contract extension at Chelsea right before he moved to Arsenal so it would not be the first time he left a club after signing a new deal.
It is believed that discussions have taken place between the player and the French club and that there is sincere interest in a move from both parties. It is unclear what Arsenal and Arteta’s stance on the subject is but one would expect the North London club to be loath to lose a player who has been one of the most important defenders at the club in the past year.
Arsenal will listen to offers for Rob Holding, Sokratis and Mustafi this summer but are keen on retaining David Luiz.
The Gunners are in the race to sign Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille and are facing competition from Napoli. The North London club are the favourites to sign the 22 year old centre back. The player will choose between Arsenal and Napoli in the coming days.
