Martinelli’s goal against Chelsea voted Arsenal’s goal of the season

Gabriel Martinelli’s goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge has been voted Arsenal’s goal of the season.

The Gunners were 1-0 down and reduced to ten men after David Luiz’s sending off in the middle of the first half. Arsenal countered after a Chelsea corner and Martinelli carried the ball from deep inside his team’s half all the way into the home side’s penalty box at great speed before calmly scoring past Kepa.

Azpilicueta scored in the closing stages of the game to restore Chelsea’s lead before Bellerin equalised for the Gunners with a left footed shot from the edge of the box. The game finished 2-2 and earned the North London club a valuable point given the circumstances.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s FA Cup final winner in the 2-1 victory over Chelsea came in second in the goal of the season vote. It will remain one of the fondest memories for Gooners around the world as it sealed Mikel Arteta’s first trophy as Arsenal manager.

Joe Willock’s thunderous strike in Arsenal’s 5-5 draw against Liverpool in the League Cup at Anfield was voted the third best goal of the season. The Gunners ended up losing the game to the Premier League champions on penalties.
