Arsenal announce the signing of Tim Akinola
|Arsenal have officially announced the signing of Tim Akinola.
The 19 year old was recently released by Huddersfield Town and has linked up with Steve Bould’s Under 23 side. He has met his teammates and is preparing for the new season.
Akinola joined the Terriers from Lincoln City in June 2019. He failed to break into the first team and spent some time out on loan at Brighouse Town FC who play in the eighth division of English football.
The player is predominantly a combative central midfielder with the ability to cover a lot of ground and win the ball back. He started his career with Mansfield Town who play in the fourth division of English football. The 19 year old is eligible to represent both Nigeria and England at international level.
During his time at Lincoln City, Akinola’s impressive form led to him breaking into the first team squad in the EFL Trophy. He spent some time out on loan at non-league side Lincoln United in January 2019.
The Gunners analysed videos of Akinola’s performances and were so impressed with him, they decided to snap him up without offering him a trial. His signing is in keeping with the club’s strategy of signing young players with a view to providing them with a platform to improve and break into the first team, failing which, they will be sold for a profit.
