Arsenal confident of signing Gabriel as agent responds to reports

Arsenal remain confident about signing Brazilian defender Gabriel but his agent, Luis Fernando Menezes Garcia, has told Gooner Talk that ‘there is nothing agreed with any club’. 

The 22 year old is edging closer to a move to North London and Arsenal’s efforts to persuade the central defender to move to the Emirates are being boosted tremendously by the Brazilian contingent at the club. 

Arsenal, Napoli and Everton have had bids for the player accepted by Lille. Everton were considered the early favourites for his signature but they have since dropped out of the race. The player will decide to move to either Arsenal or Napoli in the coming days.

Napoli have made a last ditch attempt to convince the central defender to move to Italy by offering him ‘a big salary deal’. He is believed to prefer a move to the Premier League but he and his representatives are seriously considering the offer from the Italian side. 

Gabriel is one of the most exciting young centre backs in world football. The 22 year old was an integral part of a Lille side that finished fourth in the French league last season. They had the fourth best defensive record in the country. The Brazilian made 34 appearances in all competitions for the French club in the 2019/20 campaign. 

The Gunners conceded 48 goals in the league last season and had the second worst defensive record among the top eight Premier League sides. Their inconsistencies at the back have been criticised on a regular basis and it has been clear that they are in need of better defenders.

The signing of Gabriel Magalhaes will go a long way to boost Arsenal’s rearguard. The player is expected to make a decision on his future imminently.
