Gabriel is ‘very close’ to joining Arsenal
Gabriel Magalhaes is very close to joining Arsenal, according to French media outlet L’Equipe.
The Gunners have offered the Brazilian defender a five year contract and an agreement is expected to be reached in the coming hours. Napoli, who have been competing with Arsenal for the Lille central defender’s signature, could try to make the player another lucrative contract offer in an attempt to sway him at the last minute.
If the Italian club do not make any further offers to Gabriel and manage to make him change his mind, Arsenal expect to apply the finishing touches to this move this week.
Lille have accepted bids for the player from Arsenal, Everton and Napoli. Everton are believed to have dropped out of the race for the Brazilian. Including bonuses, the French club stands to receive £27 million for the central defender.
The 22 year old joined Lille from Brazilian club FC Avai in 2017. The young defender spent time on loan at French side Troyes AC and Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb in 2018. He has made 52 appearances for Lille. This season, he made 34 appearances for the French club across all competitions. He helped Lille finish fourth in the French league. They had the fourth best defensive record in the country.
