Arsenal to hold further talks with Lyon as they look to sign Aouar

Arsenal will hold further talks with Lyon in the near future as they look to sign Houssem Aouar, according to Julien Laurens of ESPN.

Edu Gaspar, Arsenal’s technical director has already held talks with Juninho, Lyon’s sporting director, regarding a move for the French midfielder. It is believed that Edu mentioned being open to offering Matteo Guendouzi in a potential swap deal in addition to cash for Aouar. The specifics of the fee involved were not discussed but the clubs will meet again to discuss the matter in greater detail. Lyon value the player at £45 million.

Days after their Champions League exit at the hands of Lyon, Manchester City are understood to have enquired about Aouar. The Citizens have a long standing interest in the player and like Mikel Arteta, Pep Guardiola is also believed to be a big admirer of the 22 year old. City will face competition from Arsenal for Aouar’s signature this summer.

Lyon have told Aouar that they will let him leave the club this summer even though he still has three years remaining on his contract. He has not earned his first French cap yet but has been called up to the senior squad by Didier Deschamps in the past. A first appearance for the French national team is surely just around the corner for the supremely talented midfielder. He is ready for a big move abroad after having dazzled for Lyon in this season’s Champions League.

Juventus have shown an interest in the Lyon academy graduate, according to sections of the Italian media. Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, is believed to have met Aouar’s agent to register his interest.

The Frenchman is currently on holiday and is expected to take his time as interested clubs try to reach an agreement with Lyon before making a decision on his future.
