Gabriel has reportedly completed his medical as he prepares to sign for Arsenal

Gabriel has completed his medical and is all set to seal a move to Arsenal, according to The Times.

The Gunners have agreed a fee of £27 million including bonuses with Lille for the Brazilian’s signature and are confident about sealing this transfer. Napoli, who have been competing with Arsenal for Gabriel’s signature, have not given up hope of signing the player.

It was reported yesterday that Manchester United had contacted Gabriel’s agent. It is unlikely that United will move for the player and looks like a tactic to accelerate talks with Arsenal or Napoli, according to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic.

The 22 year old is one of the most exciting young central defenders in world football. He was an integral part of a Lille side that finished fourth in the French league last season. They had the fourth best defensive record in the country. The Brazilian made 34 appearances in all competitions for the French club in the 2019/20 campaign.

The Brazilian defender joined Lille from Brazilian club FC Avai in 2017. The young defender spent time on loan at French side Troyes AC and Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb in 2018. He has made 52 appearances for Lille.

The Gunners conceded 48 goals in the league last season and had the second worst defensive record among the top eight Premier League sides. Their inconsistencies at the back have been criticised on a regular basis and it has been clear that they are in need of better defenders. Gabriel would significantly improve their rearguard.

Arsenal will look to move on up to four central defenders this summer if Gabriel moves to the Emirates. The North London club will listen to offers for Rob Holding, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi.
