Arsenal ‘on the brink’ of signing Gabriel

Arsenal are on the brink of signing Gabriel from Lille, according to the Independent. 

The Gunners are aiming to complete a £27 million deal for the Brazilian central defender early next week. They were confident about sealing this move a few days ago but the deal was delayed due to Manchester United entering the race at the last minute. United contacted Gabriel’s representatives and had asked the player to wait for a few days before making a final decision on his next club.

It is believed that the Red devils are now stalling over their renewed interest in the 22 year old and Lille are yet to receive an official bid from them. As a result of their inaction, Manchester United look set to miss out on a deal for him. Arsenal have agreed a five year contract with Gabriel and as long as there are no further complications, the Brazilian will be headed to the Emirates in the near future. 

The North London club, Napoli and Everton have had bids for the player accepted by Lille. Everton, who were considered to be the early favourites, have dropped out of the race for his signature. Gabriel is Napoli’s top defensive target but the Italian club want the 22 year old to wait a little longer before choosing his next club as they would like to sell Kalidou Koulibaly before making a move for the Lille centre back. 

It looks like Arsenal have their man.
