Arsenal will not sign Thiago this summer

Arsenal will not sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich this summer, according to Christian Falk of German media outlet Bild.

The Gunners were said to be interested in signing the Spanish midfielder but needed the German champions to reduce their £23 million asking price, according to the Daily Mail.  It is clear that Arsenal want to revamp their midfield this summer but it does not look like the 29 year old will move to the Emirates.

The North London club remain keen on re-signing Dani Ceballos on loan. They continue to be in talks with Real Madrid and hope to seal this deal at the earliest. Mikel Arteta’s side are also interested in Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar of Lyon.

Liverpool are the favourites for Thiago’s signature but the English champions are also reluctant to pay £23 million to sign a player with only one year remaining on his contract. He commands a significant salary and Liverpool are fully aware of the fact that he will be able to discuss a free transfer with other clubs in January. They remain in talks with the Bavarian giants and both parties are hopeful of finding an agreement.

Bayern are keen on selling him this summer as he looks unlikely to renew his contract at the Allianz Arena and they would be loath to let him leave the club for free next year.
