Fiorentina believe they can strike a deal with Arsenal to sign Lucas Torreira before the Serie A begins, according to Italian media outlet Firenze Viola.
The Italian club have prepared an offer that would see them sign Torreira on a season long loan with an obligation to sign him permanently next summer. They would pay Arsenal a £7.1 million loan fee this summer and between £15.2 and £16 million next year to make the move permanent. In total, Arsenal would receive around £23 million for the Uruguayan from Fiorentina.
The Gunners are understood to want closer to £27 million for Torreira’s signature and have told the Italian side they are not willing to negotiate further on the fee. Fiorentina’s sporting director, Daniel Prade, and club director, Joe Barone, are working hard on structuring an offer that the North London club will deem acceptable for the 24 year old’s signature.
They are not yet at the figure demanded by the Gunners but by adding some bonuses to the offer, they believe they can strike a deal with Arsenal. They think there is a chance of signing Torreira before September 19th which is when the Serie A begins. La Viola do have alternatives in the event that their pursuit of Torreira is unsuccessful.
It is important to note that in a recent interview with Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Torreira’s agent said that while there was interest in the player, no official bids had been made. He also said that Mikel Arteta and Arsenal have to decide whether they want to retain Torreira or not and that if the Gunners were to decide to move the player on, they would prefer to sell him outright.
