Ceballos to return to Arsenal on a season long loan

Dani Ceballos will return to Arsenal on a season long loan, according to Jose Luis Sanchez of Spanish channel La Sexta.

Real Madrid and Arsenal are in advanced talks and are close to finding a complete agreement. The Spanish giants want Ceballos to continue progressing and gaining experience in the Premier League. The Gunners had three bids for the player turned down but Real Madrid will give the move a green light soon, according to Fabrizio Romano. The deal doesn’t include an option or obligation to buy the player next summer, according to Spanish media outlet Marca.

The Spaniard spent the 2019/20 season on loan in North London. He scored two goals and provided two assists in 37 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions. He had a largely indifferent first half of the season at Arsenal due to injuries and a lack of form.

He got an extended run in the first team after the winter break and put in a string of impressive performances to cement his place in the side. He was one of Arsenal’s standout players in the closing stages of the season and is crucial to Mikel Arteta’s plans at the club.

The former Real Betis midfielder played in every FA Cup game for Arsenal on their way to being crowned champions last season. Ceballos scored a crucial last minute winner against Sheffield United in the quarter finals of the FA Cup. He and Granit Xhaka have forged an effective partnership in the middle of the park.

The 24 year old is focussed on being a part of the Spain squad for the European championship next year and knows that he will need to be playing regularly in the upcoming season to have a chance of being selected. Based on how he finished the season at Arsenal, he will be one of the first names on Mikel Arteta’s team sheet at the start of the 2020/21 campaign.
