Dani Ceballos officially rejoins Arsenal on a season long loan

Dani Ceballos has officially rejoined Arsenal on loan for the 2020/21 season. He will continue to wear the number eight shirt for the Gunners.

The 24 year old spent the 2019/20 season on loan in North London. He scored two goals and provided two assists in 37 appearances for the club in all competitions. He had an indifferent first half of the season at Arsenal due to injuries and poor form.

The former Real Betis midfielder got an extended run in the first team after the winter break and cemented his place in the side with a number of impressive performances. He was one of Arsenal’s most important players after the resumption of the Premier League in June and is crucial to Mikel Arteta’s plans at the club.

The Spaniard played a significant role in Arsenal’s fourteenth FA Cup triumph last season. Ceballos scored a crucial last minute winner against Sheffield United in the quarter finals of the FA Cup and started in the semi final as well as the final. He and Granit Xhaka have forged an effective partnership in the middle of the park.

The 23 year old is focussed on being a part of the Spain squad for the European championship next year and knows that he will need to be playing regularly in the upcoming season to have a chance of being selected. Based on how he finished the season at Arsenal, he will be one of the first names on Mikel Arteta’s team sheet at the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

On Ceballos’ return to the club, technical director Edu Gaspar said:

“We’re thrilled to have Dani back with us for the new season. We all know his qualities after an impressive 2019/2020 campaign, which ended with him playing a key role in our FA Cup success. We’re excited to add Dani to the list of quality players we are bringing in.”

Head coach Mikel Arteta will be pleased to welcome Ceballos back to the club. He said:

“Dani was an integral part of our team last season and finished the season in excellent form. I love Dani’s passion and commitment and he’s a highly skilful player. We’re all delighted to welcome him back and we look forward to seeing him pick up where he left off.”
