Torino’s president confirms that the club are ‘considering Torreira’
|Torino are considering the possibility of signing Lucas Torreira this summer, as per their president Urbano Cairo via Fabrizio Romano.
Torreira looks set to leave Arsenal in the current transfer window and return to Italy. Fiorentina are thought to be in talks with the Gunners and are optimistic about striking a deal to sign the combative midfielder in the near future. Torino have long held an interest in the Uruguay international and are considering a move for the player. It must be noted that he is not their only target.
Their manager, Marco Giampaolo, was the man who coached Torreira at Sampdoria before he departed for Arsenal. Reuniting with his former boss will certainly be an attractive option for the 24 year old but it remains to be seen if the Turin based club will be able to finance a deal for the player.
Arsenal are keen on moving Torreira on and hope to recoup most of the £26 million they spent to bring him to the Emirates in 2018. Fiorentina want to sign the former Sampdoria midfielder on loan with an option to make the move permanent next summer and have put together a package that would see the Gunners receive just over £21 million if the Italian club exercised their purchase option next year.
Certain sections of the Italian press are reporting that Fiorentina are looking to sign him on loan with an obligation to make the move permanent next year rather than just an option. This is sure to be a preferable option for the North London club but it remains to be seen if this is actually the case.
