Torino are closing in on the signing of Lucas Torreira from Arsenal, according to Italian media outlet Calciomercato via Sport Witness.
The Italian club look set to spend £22 million to take the 24 year old back to Italy. It is likely to be a loan with an obligation to make the move permanent next year.
There are still details to be worked out before this transfer is confirmed but it seems to be moving in the right direction. It is believed that the Turin based side are looking to sell defender Armando Izzo to Roma in order to fund a move for the Uruguay international.
Torreira is not part of Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s plans and is keen on reuniting with his former Sampdoria boss Marco Giampaolo who is now at Torino. The Gunners are keen on moving him on so that they can focus their efforts on signing a new midfielder. Thomas Partey of Atletico Madrid and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar remain the club’s top targets.
Fiorentina were interested in signing the Uruguay international but it now looks like Torino are in pole position to get a deal for the player over the line. If Torino fail to sign Torreira, their backup option is Fausto Vera.
