Aubameyang officially signs new Arsenal contract

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has officially signed a new contract that will keep him at Arsenal until 2023.

Including bonuses, the Gabon international becomes the highest paid player in Arsenal history. There were fears that he would leave the club this summer with only one year left on his current deal but those concerns have been allayed with this news.

Aubameyang signed for Arsenal in January 2018 from Borussia Dortmund for what was then a club record £56 million. He hit the ground running and established himself as the North London club’s main man.

He has scored 72 goals and provided 15 assists in 111 appearances for the club. He broke Thierry Henry’s record to become the fastest ever Arsenal player to score 50 Premier League goals. He achieved this feat in just 79 games.

The Gabonese hitman scored 22 goals in the Premier League in the 2018/19 campaign and was the division’s top scorer alongside Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Last season, he maintained his consistency in front of goal, scoring 22 times again. He missed out on the golden boot by just one goal.

Ever since he signed for Arsenal, he has been their talisman. He played a crucial role in their FA Cup victory last season, scoring all four Arsenal goals in the semi final and the final. He scored in the Community Shield victory over Liverpool and opened his account in the new Premier League campaign with a sublime finish against Fulham last weekend.

Since moving to England, he has cemented his status as a truly world class striker. With his future at Arsenal secured, Gooners can afford to be excited and optimistic about the future.
