Arsenal will submit a bid in excess of £36.5 million for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar shortly, according to French media outlet Telefoot Chaine.
The Gunners are keen on rebuilding their midfield and Mikel Arteta is said to see Aouar as his priority this summer. He was a shining light in Lyon’s run to the Champions League semi final last season. He scored nine goals and provided ten assists in 41 appearances across all competitions in the 2019/20 campaign.
Lyon want to sell their star midfielder for £53.5 million in the current transfer window. The North London club are the only side to have made a concrete offer for the player so far. They offered Matteo Guendouzi in addition to cash for Aouar but this proposal was rejected by the French side. They are not interested in signing Guendouzi this summer.
Aouar is a Lyon academy graduate. He joined the French club’s academy at the age of 11 and made his debut for the senior side in 2017. The French midfielder has scored 24 goals and provided 27 assists in 139 games for Lyon.
In addition to Aouar, the Gunners still maintain an interest in Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian has a £45 million buyout clause and Atletico have made it clear that they will not let him leave the club unless his release clause is triggered.
