Brentford reject Arsenal’s £10 million bid for Raya

Arsenal have had a £10 million bid for goalkeeper David Raya rejected by Brentford, according to Sam Dean of the Telegraph.

The 25 year old is believed to be one of Mikel Arteta’s top targets this summer. The Gunners are in the process of revamping their goalkeeping department after the departure of Emiliano Martinez and are keen on signing Raya in addition to Icelandic goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson. Raya wants to test himself in the top flight.

Brentford are believed to be unwilling to sell Raya this summer but would be willing to do a deal with Arsenal that would see the Gunners sign the Spanish goalkeeper in the current transfer window and then loan him back to the Championship club for the 2020/21 season. This would not be an ideal arrangement for the North London side who are keen on integrating the 25 year old into their squad at the earliest.

Matt Macey, Arsenal’s current second choice goalkeeper as a result of Martinez’s departure, has only one year remaining on his contract and wants to leave the club this summer.

It remains to be seen if the Gunners will manage to find an agreement with Brentford to sign Raya but he is definitely a player that Arteta wants to bring to the Emirates.
