Simeone has called Torreira and indicated that he wants him at Atletico
|Diego Simeone has called Lucas Torreira and indicated that he wants the Uruguayan midfielder to sign for Atletico Madrid this summer, according to Sebas Giovanelli of Uruguayan media outlet Sport 890.
Torreira is not in Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s plans and looks set to depart the Emirates in the current transfer window. He has been strongly linked with a move to Torino in recent weeks.
His former Sampdoria manager Marco Giampaolo is currently in charge of Torino and a reunion could be on the cards. This late interest from Atletico could, however, change the Uruguay international’s plans.
Arsenal are keen on signing Thomas Partey and if the Rojiblancos are interested in Torreira, the Spanish giants could be tempted by an offer for the Ghanaian midfielder that includes Torreira and cash.
Earlier in the window, the North London side offered the Madrid based club cash in addition to one of a number of their players but this proposal was rejected. It is unknown if Torreira was one of the players who was offered to Simeone’s side. Atletico have so far made it clear that they will not allow Partey to leave the club unless his £45 million buyout clause is triggered.
In addition to Torino and Atletico Madrid, AC Milan are also interested in signing Torreira. The Italian giants recently contacted Torreira’s agents regarding a move this summer, according to Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sports Italy. They were very interested in signing the midfielder last summer but Arsenal refused to sanction a deal.
