Arsenal will make a second bid worth just under £35 million for Houssem Aouar at the start of next week, according to French media outlet RMC Sport.
The Gunners had a £32 million bid for Aouar rejected recently and Lyon will turn down their second offer as well. The French side’s president Jean-Michel Aulas wants £45.6 million for the Lyon academy graduate.
Aouar has not agreed personal terms with Arsenal, according to several sources close to the French club. Club insiders have said that the North London side and Lyon are far from an agreement at the moment and Aouar will not be focussed on these discussions until more progress is made.
The North London side are prepared to meet Lyon’s demands with an initial fee of £36.5 million and add-ons of £9.1 million, according to James Benge of Football London. The Gunners are said to be preparing this offer for their top transfer target.
Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar are keen on bringing Aouar to the Emirates this summer but will have to find an agreement with Aulas who is a notoriously difficult person to negotiate with. Arsenal are intent on rebuilding their midfield and see the Lyon midfielder as a crucial part of their long term future.
