Torreira’s representatives in Madrid to find an agreement with Atletico
|Lucas Torreira’s representatives are in Madrid to find an agreement with Atletico, according to Matteo Moretto of Sky Sports Italy.
Talks have been ongoing between Arsenal, the player’s camp and Atletico Madrid as they look to strike a deal that would see the Uruguay international move to the Wanda Metropolitano. The Gunners would prefer to sell Torreira permanently while the Rojiblancos are keen on a loan with an option to make the move permanent next summer. Atletico plan on making a new bid for the player.
The former Sampdoria midfielder is determined to play for the Spanish giants and will hope that an agreement can be reached by all parties. Arsenal remain interested in signing Thomas Partey, one of their top transfer targets, and would like to include Torreira in a deal to bring the Ghana international to North London.
Atletico are not interested in any such deal. They want to sign Torreira on loan but will only allow Partey to leave the club if his £45 million release clause is paid in full. This has been their position on the matter all summer and it looks unlikely that they will change their stance.
Arsenal signed Torreira in the summer of 2018 and while he had a standout debut season in England, his second campaign was substandard and he is not in Mikel Arteta’s plans. There are still clubs in Italy who are interested in signing him if a move to Atletico falls through.
