Real Madrid have entered the race for Houssem Aouar, according to French media outlet L’Equipe via Get French Football News.
It is understood that Zinedine Zidane recently held talks with the 22 year old, who would be very interested in representing the Spanish Champions. Zidane and the player’s entourage have held talks about a move next summer as the La Liga side cannot afford to sign him in the current window due to the financial ramifications of the pandemic.
The Real Madrid coach has a number of options in midfield including Modric, Kroos, Valverde, Isco and Casemeiro but sees the possibility of signing Aouar as a serious opportunity that he would rather not miss out on.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas wanted to sell Aouar for £55 million earlier in the window but due to the financial environment, has lowered his valuation of the player. He has good relations with the Real Madrid board and he could make certain allowances for the Spanish giants as a result of these ties.
The French side would be open to a club signing Aouar on loan with an obligation to make the move permanent next summer as long as they receive a suitable transfer fee.
As things stand, Lyon are yet to receive a bid that satisfies their requirements. Arsenal, the frontrunners in the race to sign Aouar, have not offered the money required to seal a deal. Juventus are interested in the player but they seem unfocused. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is interested in Aouar but the player is not keen on this move.
Real Madrid’s interest in the player could be key. Zidane has followed Aouar for a long time and the Lyon academy graduate’s performances in the latter stages of the Champions League last season convinced his coaching staff of the player’s quality and fit for the Madrid based side.
For Aouar, joining the Spanish giants would be a dream. At this moment, Aouar cannot imagine himself at any club apart from Real Madrid.
According to Fabrizio Romano, neither PSG nor Real Madrid are in the race to sign Aouar this summer. Juventus are trying to sign Federico Chiesa and not Aouar. Lyon will not accept bids less than £45.3 million for their star midfielder.
