Guendouzi closing in on move to Hertha Berlin on loan
|Matteo Guendouzi looks set to move to Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin on loan, according to John Cross of the Mirror.
The Frenchman is yet to play a single minute of first team football for Arsenal this season and hasn’t been included in any of the matchday squads. He hasn’t played for the Gunners since his involvement in an incident at Brighton in June.
The North London club have been keen on moving him on this summer but have struggled to generate substantial interest in the former Lorient midfielder. He has been linked to Marseille, Villareal and Roma but those moves have not materialised. Hertha Berlin look set to take advantage of the lack of interest in the 21 year old and sign him on loan ahead of the transfer deadline.
The German side will not have an option or obligation to make this move permanent next year, according to Get French Football News.
Guendouzi will only have one year remaining on his contract at the end of this season and the Gunners will find it difficult to generate substantial offers for a player who is nearing the end of his contract.
Arsenal signed the French midfielder from Lorient in the summer of 2018 for £7 million. He flourished under Unai Emery but clashed with Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal hierarchy due to his poor attitude and conduct. As a result, he is seemingly not in the Arsenal manager’s plans and looks set to depart North London.
