Arsenal reportedly inform La Liga that they will trigger Partey’s release clause
|Arsenal have informed La Liga that they will trigger Thomas Partey’s release clause shortly, according to Antonio Ruiz of Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.
The North London club have gotten in touch with Partey’s representatives to express their intention to trigger his release clause and are making all arrangements for his medical in spain, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic who has credited Charles Watts of Goal for the story.
Partey has been Arsenal’s primary transfer target this summer but Atletico Madrid have insisted that they will not let the Ghanaian midfielder leave unless his £45 million buyout clause is paid in full. Arsenal have so far refused to meet his release clause but it looks like they are prepared to pay £45 million to bring Partey to the Emirates on deadline day.
The 27 year old is believed to be keen on a move to Arsenal and it is thought that personal terms will not be a problem. If the North London club were to trigger his buyout clause, a move for the player could be completed within hours, according to Charles Watts of Goal who was the first to report that Arsenal have made a renewed effort to sign the Ghana international earlier today.
The Gunners have been scouting Partey for a number of years and it looks like they might finally be close to getting their man. He joined Atletico in 2012 and made his first team debut for the club in 2015 after spending time at Mallorca and Almeria on loan. He has scored 16 goals and provided 12 assists in 188 appearances for the Rojiblancos.
Partey’s transfer to Arsenal could pave the way for Lucas Torreira’s loan move to Atletico to be confirmed. The Spanish giants need two players to leave the club before confirming a deal to sign the Uruguay international. Nikola Kalinic could be on his way to Italian side Verona but Hector Herera is still at the club and has rejected interest from a host of sides.
