Ozil and Sokratis reportedly left out of Arsenal’s 25-man squad for the Europa League
|Mesut Ozil and Sokratis have been left out of Arsenal’s 25-man squad for the Europa League, according to Charles Watts of Goal.
The German playmaker has less than 12 months remaining on his contract with the Gunners and has not been included in a single matchday squad so far this season. He was not involved towards the end of the last campaign either and this has been seen as a signal from Mikel Arteta that he is unlikely to feature for the North London club too much this season.
Arsenal’s Number 10 recently said he would be willing to pay the wages of Jerry Quy, the man who has worn the Gunnersaurus costume since 1993, after he was made redundant by the club. While his offer was praised on social media, it is unlikely to have gone down too well with the top brass at the club. Last season, when a majority of the playing staff took a pay cut due to the financial ramifications of the pandemic, Ozil refused to do so.
Sokratis has also reportedly been left out of the Europa League squad. The Greek defender was linked with a move away from the club this summer but remains an Arsenal player. He has less than one year remaining on his current deal with the Gunners.
