Maitland-Niles makes his first start for the England senior team against Denmark, Saka on the bench

Ainsley Maitland-Niles will make his first start for the England senior team against Denmark tonight.

The Arsenal academy graduate has made two appearances for the Three Lions so far but both have been from off the bench. The 23 year old made his debut for Gareth Southgate’s side in September against the same opponents he will face tonight. That game ended goalless. He got his second cap for his country in England’s 3-0 win over Wales last week.

Maitland-Niles has become an important part of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s plans and he will hope his increased influence at club level will help him become an England regular. This season, he has made six appearances for the Gunners in all competitions and started two of their four Premier League games.

Bukayo Saka is on the bench for England’s game against Denmark. He made his debut for his country against Wales last week and will be hoping to get another opportunity to impress tonight.

The 19 year old had a breakthrough season at club level last year, scoring four goals and providing eleven assists in 39 games across all competitions. He set up more goals than any other Arsenal player in the previous campaign. This season, he has scored one goal and provided one assist in five appearances in all competitions.
