Who to captain in Fantasy Premier League for gameweek 5

The perennial challenge for Fantasy managers is getting their captain right. Choosing a captain who gets a big haul can make a good weekend great and making the wrong decision is painful and can make you want to fast forward to the next gameweek. I’ve always been told that if you get your captain right every week, you will have a great season. Easier said than done with the number of options available and the unpredictability of the Premier League.

We have taken a look at the fixtures and players’ form ahead of making the all important decision of who to captain for gameweek 5. We have chosen the captain of our team as well as a differential captain for those who are looking for other options.

Our captain

Mohamed Salah

The Egyptian takes on Everton in the Merseyside derby this weekend and although his away form isn’t great, he scored a brace at Villa Park in gameweek 4. Salah is a better fantasy asset in Mane’s absence but even though the Senegalese star is likely to return to the starting lineup on Saturday, we believe Liverpool will be fired up for this game due to the battering they suffered at the hands of Aston Villa two weeks ago.

Everton have had a perfect start to the season but are suspect defensively, having conceded five goals in their first four games of the current campaign. Salah is on penalties and this adds to his appeal. He has scored five goals and provided one assist in four appearances this season and has been unlucky to not get more attacking returns.

Differential Captain

Son Heung-Min

Son takes on West Ham United at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. This game will not be as easy as it appears on paper as David Moyes’ side will look to frustrate Spurs and defend deep. Son has exploded against Southampton who played a high line and Manchester United who were defensively woeful and one man down for much of the game. Having said that, the South Korean attacker is in unbelievable form and will look to pick up where he left off in this London derby.
