‘He was fantastic’ – Mikel Arteta heaps praise on Arsenal summer signing

Arsenal picked up a 2-1 win over Rapid Vienna in the Europa League last night and Thomas Partey’s full debut impressed manager Mikel Arteta.

The 27-year-old signed from Atletico Madrid on deadline day and he was a substitute against Manchester City last weekend.

Arteta gave the midfielder his first start for Arsenal in Vienna and he managed to impress with a flawless performance.

Partey helped Arsenal control the midfield throughout the game and he mopped up defensively as well.

His assured display will excite the fans and they will be hoping for more of the same in the coming weeks now.

Arsenal needed a technically gifted midfielder like him and they paid big money to secure his services.

So far they will be pleased with what they have seen from their new recruit and Partey will be hoping to build on his impressive start to life at Arsenal.

The Gunners will be hoping to secure Champions League qualification this season and Arteta will need players like Partey to step up and deliver on a weekly basis.

Speaking about his performance, Arteta said via Football London: “He looked really solid, really comfortable. He held midfield by himself in the second half when we were a little bit more open and starting to take more chances attacking certain places with some players. He was fantastic tonight and there’s much more to come from him.”
