Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has more or less confirmed that Arsenal were keen on him earlier this summer.
The midfielder also hinted that he was open to negotiations with the London club.
He said (via Goal): “I believe that every player is open to negotiations. So I believe there was something they talked about. And in the end, it was decided that I remain here. Now my head is here and we’re going to do a great job with Chelsea, which I always wanted to do.”
It is no surprise that Mikel Arteta wanted to improve his midfield options earlier this summer and the Gunners went on to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid.
Jorginho has done reasonably well at Chelsea an Arteta is reportedly an admirer of the midfielder.
The Chelsea ace could have been a useful signing for Arsenal this summer. The Gunners need someone to control the tempo of the game and recycle possession from the deep. Jorginho is adept at that and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal decide to come in for him in future.
Jorginho has been a regular starter for Chelsea ever since his move to Stamford Bridge and the Blues might not want to sell him to a direct rival. It will be interesting to see what happens in the summer.
The fact that the player was open to talks with Arsenal suggests that the Gunners might have no problems convincing Jorginho.
