Arteta responds to claims from Mesut Ozil’s agent
|Mesut Ozil’s agent recently criticized Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta for the lack of honesty.
The German midfielder was left out of Arsenal’s Premier League and European squad and the player’s agent claimed that Arteta has not been honest and fair to the former World Cup winner.
Now the Arsenal manager has revealed that he has been honest about the whole situation and he also hinted that Ozil should have stepped up and performed to the standards required from an Arsenal player.
Arteta said (via Mail): “If you have to lead, they have to trust you. In order for them to trust you, you have to be honest. You have to be clear and you have to be able to tell people, face to face, the good and bad news. Then you have to be consistent in what you say, the demands you put in and what you apply.
“When things happen, you applaud them and then when they don’t, there are consequences. Then you create a culture and within that culture people have to be accountable. People have to step up and they have to demand the standards we need of each other from this football club in order to be successful.”
However, the Arsenal midfielder believes that his criticism of China’s mistreatment towards Uighur Muslims has resulted in his exile from the first team.
The German midfielder will be out of contract at the end of this season and it is clear that his future at Arsenal is over already.
Mesut Ozil is unlikely to play for the London club anytime soon and he should look to leave in January for the sake of his own career.
The 32 year old has not played for seven months now and move away from Arsenal could help him resurrect his career.
