Mesut Ozil has announced that he has joined San Francisco-based venture capital firm Class 5 Global as a strategic advisor, according to Chris Wheatley of Football.london.
On his decision to take on this role, Ozil said:
“I am excited to shape and work on my post-football career while I am still actively playing football.”
The German playmaker is an existing investor in the investment company and is set to take on a new role in the organisation. His decision to enter the world of startup investments suggests that he plans on being involved in this space beyond his days as a football player. The former Real Madrid midfielder has also agreed a new sponsorship deal with a Turkish jewelry brand, according to Chris Wheatley.
Arsenal’s number 10 is making preparations for his life once he hangs up his boots. He is yet to play a minute of competitive football for the Gunners this season and is not part of the club’s Premier League and Europa League squads. Manager Mikel Arteta does not seem to count on the 31 year old who has less than a year remaining on his contract. If he does manage to work his way back into the Spaniard’s plans, the earliest he would be able to play for the North London side is February.
Ozil’s last appearance in an Arsenal shirt was against West Ham in the Premier League right before football was suspended due to the pandemic. He set up Alexander Lacazette for a late winner in a 1-0 victory for the Gunners.
