Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has raved about Mohamed Elneny on the club’s official website.
Arteta has said that he is very happy with the performances of Elneny and has responded well to his challenges.
The Arsenal boss told the club’s official website about Elneny: “I think he is responding really well to all the challenges we are putting in front of him.
“He had a big one when he came back from his loan spell to show what he could bring to the squad and I think everyone has seen what he can do, so I am really pleased with his performances and what he brings to the team.”
Elneny has been on the books of Arsenal since 2016, but in recent years it looked like he had no future at the North London club.
The Egypt international defensive midfielder failed to play regularly for the Gunners during the 2018-19 season when Unai Emery was in charge.
The 28-year-old made just five starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Gunners that campaign, according to WhoScored.
When Elneny left for Besiktas on a season-long loan deal in the summer of 2019, few would have predicted him to come back and establish himself as an important player in Arteta’s team.
Elneny has done just that, as the Egyptian has taken the opportunity given to him by Arteta with both hands.
According to WhoScored, the midfielder has played four times in the Premier League and twice in the Europa League for Arsenal so far this season.
With Arsenal aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season and also make an impact in the Europa League, Elneny could play an important role in that quest.
Elneny played well alongside Thomas Partey in midfield against Manchester United last weekend, and perhaps they could form a formidable partnership in the middle of the park.
