Troy Deeney thinks Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would score 20 goals for Arsenal this season

Watford striker Troy Deeney has told talkSPORT that he thinks that Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would score 20 goals in the Premier League this season.

Deeney has pointed out that Arsenal had a short pre-season, and believes that the Gabon international striker is probably tired.

The Englishman has added that although Aubameyang is having a slow start, he is still backing the former Borussia Dortmund star to bang in 20 goals this season.

Deeney told talkSPORT: “I think we’ve all got to remember it’s been a very short pre-season with no real rest. Especially for those Arsenal guys who played the last game in the FA Cup and with the Community Shield as well.

“They are probably tired; people don’t like to hear sportsmen get tired but they do. Mentally as well as physically. He’s just having a bit of a slow start.

“Would you still think he’s going to score 20 goals this season? I think he would score that many. When he gets going he’ll be right up there.”

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s poor form

Aubameyang is one of the best strikers in the Premier League, but there is no escaping the fact that the 31-year-old is not having the best of times at the moment.

In the Premier League game against Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening, the 31-year-old did not take a single shot, as reported by BBC Sport.

According to WhoScored, the striker has scored two goals and provided one assist in eight Premier League games, and in the Europa League, he has scored one goal in 29 minutes this season.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Arsenal record

Aubameyang has been superb for Arsenal over the years, though, and has established himself as the main goalscorer in the team.

The 31-year-old found the back of the net 22 times in the Premier League last season and also gave three assists, while in the 2018-19 campaign, he scored 22 goals and provided five assists in the league, according to WhoScored.

Staying positive

Every striker goes through a barren spell, and Arsenal fans should not panic. After all, Aubameyang is a proven goalscorer and a senior player in the team, and he will know what is expected of him.

Perhaps after the two-week international break, Aubameyang – and the rest of the Arsenal players – will return to club football with more vigour and dynamism.
