Arsenal plan on signing a creative midfielder next summer
|Arsenal plan on signing a creative midfielder next summer and are already working on player recruitment, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The Gunners signed Thomas Partey and Gabriel this summer but failed to address the lack of creativity in the squad. It has been apparent in their first eight games of the Premier League season that they struggle to break down teams who sit back. They lack the ability to unlock opposition defences and this has made Arteta’s side a bit too predictable on occasion this season.
Mesut Ozil has been left out of the Premier League and Europa League squads and barring a significant shift in strategy, is unlikely to play for Arsenal again. He will leave the club next summer as his contract will have come to an end by then. In addition to Ozil, Sokratis, Mustafi and David Luiz will also reach the end of their deals at Arsenal at the end of the current campaign.
The North London side were heavily interested in Lyon’s Houssem Aouar last summer and there is nothing to suggest that they won’t go back in for the player next year.
They are also believed to be interested in Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Salzburg but the player has been heavily linked with a move to Red Bull Leipzig recently.
Arteta and Edu are understood to be keen on an attacking midfielder who is also capable of playing on the right hand side as they could use some depth in that area. They are well stocked on the left. They could also look to bolster their options in central defence and might add a right sided central defender to the squad next summer.
