Barcelona are interested in signing Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi, according to Spanish media outlet Sport via Football.london.
The German centre back is currently out of favour at the Emirates and has less than a year remaining on his current deal with the club. He recently returned to fitness after suffering an injury in the North London side’s FA Cup semi final against Manchester City at Wembley last season. In the current campaign, he has made four appearances in all competitions.
New Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman has seen his side make an indifferent start to the 2020/21 season and is looking to sign a central defender. Mustafi, Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger and Liverpool’s Joel Matip are understood to be on the Spanish giants’ radar.
Due to the defensive crisis at Liverpool as a result of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez’s long term injuries, Matip’s importance to Jurgen Klopp’s side has increased and it is unlikely he will be allowed to leave.
Both Rudiger and Mustafi don’t seem to feature in Frank Lampard and Mikel Arteta’s plans and could be viable transfer targets for the La Liga side. Rudiger has less than two years remaining on his contract while Mustafi will be a free agent next summer. This means the former Valencia defender could be available for a cut price fee in January.
